Power Point
“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” - 1 Corinthians 1:18 NIV
A number of years ago, I had the idea to start a new ministry in town - A monthly Christian Business Person’s luncheon called Power Point. So, I grabbed a few like minded men in the community to meet with and discuss the vision and talk through how we could make this luncheon idea, that we hoped would cross denominational and racial lines, into a reality.
We met and talked and prayed over it a number of times, but due to the busyness of life and business, I never pulled the trigger. Until, that is, I got an email from one of the more lower key, less talkative guys I had involved in the discussion. The email basically asked, “When are you going to get off your tail and make this happen?”
We had our first Power Point meeting the next month and it took off and grew from there. It lasted a little over 10 years, it lasted through the 3 1/2 years we had moved away, until it finally began to lose it’s value and significance in the group we were trying to reach and unite. So just after 10 years from its inception, we put it to rest for awhile (never knowing when we may be led to wake it up again)
Prior to one of our Power Point Thursday’s, the lady who was my assistant at the bank at the time, asked in her cynical almost sarcastic humorous tone that was her nature...
“So... Are you trying to save the world? Or what?”
“No,”I responded, “Just trying to change our little part of it. But I like the way you think.”
As I think through Power Point and the conversation with my assistant that day, I’m reminded that only Jesus can save the world. Not you. Or me. Or Superman for that matter.
Only Jesus.
But through prayer, a willing heart and through the leadership and guidance of the Holy Spirit, we can change the world.
We can be the catalyst, the tool, the person used to make a difference, to change minds and mindsets, to be men and women of God and change the world around us.
What is it that God is laying on your heart to do, to start, to change?
What’s keeping you from doing it?
“When are you going to get off your tail and make it happen?”
Keep the Faith... Carpe Diem.
