Old Lazy Dog brings a different view of faith, life, and the struggles we face in the marketplace and our day to day lives…while we strive to go deeper in our faith walk, put our faith to work, and see God at work around us on a daily basis.

More Than a Feeling

More Than a Feeling

“We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat. And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.”
- 2 Thessalonians 3:11-13 NIV

For some reason, I just don’t feel like it today.

I don’t feel like praying.
I don’t feel like reading the Word.
I don’t feel like writing and sharing.

Though, I have a lot to be grateful for.
Though I am blessed beyond belief.
Though I can see His mighty hand protecting me and my family, and feel
His strong hand guiding and leading me.
Though I know all that.
See all that.
Feel all that.
For some reason, I don’t feel like it.

Yet, I do it anyway.

Not because of some feeling of obligation like some Pharisee.
Or some need to fill some ritualistic habit.
Not because of some desire to somehow earn God’s favor.
Or lose it if I don’t.

No. I do it anyway because deep down in my heart of hearts, I want to.
I need to.
Doing those simple daily things are a sort of an outpouring of my heart... of my very soul.
Kind of like breakfast for my faith.

I do it because He wants me to.
He wants me to draw near to Him.
To trust in Him.
To share with Him the desires of my heart.
He wants to hear of my struggles and my weakness.
He wants to steady me and hold me.
He wants me to know Him more and better.
He wants me to be able to stand strong in my weakness.
And stay humble in my strength - knowing its Him that makes me strong and gives the gifts that bring Him glory.

Though I sometimes don’t feel like it... I do it any way.

And somehow through reading, praying... even writing and sharing, I feel better, stronger. Wondering why I didn’t feel like doing it.

A reminder that faith is “more than a feeling.

May this day be a day that you do it any way.

Keep the Faith... Carpe Diem
