Old Lazy Dog brings a different view of faith, life, and the struggles we face in the marketplace and our day to day lives…while we strive to go deeper in our faith walk, put our faith to work, and see God at work around us on a daily basis.

The Why

The Why

When my girls were young. Just learning to talk in conversations. When the cognitive part of their brain development was kicking into high gear, “Why?” became a question that was part of most every conversation.

“The Sky is blue.”
“Why?”

“Do you see the air plane up so high in the sky?”
“Why does the plane fly so high?”

“Why did God make mosquitos and ants?
“Why do I have to wear long pants?”

And so on and so forth…

Then those Why’s (how I miss the days of those why’s) somehow graduated to these Why’s (I even miss these why’s sometimes).

“Why do I need to go to bed now?’
“Why do I need to turn on my left turn signal before I’m turning?”
“Why do I need to have a clean room?
“Why do I need to be home by then?”

And so on and so forth…

For years, with all three girls, we have asked and answered the “Why?” many times.

And for years at about the same time, we heard the TV commercial continue the question further with…“Why ask why?

This morning, let's read and dwell on another kind of “Why”. Let’s focus on why Jesus lived and died... and lived again for you and me.

Let's praise Him...
Let’s worship Him...
Let’s adore Him...
Let’s thank Him for what He endured, for what He did for us... and why.

“Yet it was our weaknesses he carried;
it was our sorrows that weighed him down.
And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God,
a punishment for his own sins!
But he was pierced for our rebellion,
crushed for our sins.He was beaten so we could be whole.
He was whipped so we could be healed.
All of us, like sheep, have strayed away.
We have left God’s paths to follow our own.
Yet the Lord laid on him
the sins of us all.
He was oppressed and treated harshly,
yet he never said a word.He was led like a lamb to the slaughter.
And as a sheep is silent before the shearers,
he did not open his mouth.
Unjustly condemned,
he was led away.
No one cared that he died without descendants,
that his life was cut short in midstream.
But he was struck down
for the rebellion of my people.
He had done no wrong
and had never deceived anyone.But he was buried like a criminal;
he was put in a rich man’s grave.
But it was the Lord’s good plan to crush him
and cause him grief.Yet when his life is made an offering for sin,
he will have many descendants. He will enjoy a long life,
and the Lord’s good plan will prosper in his hands.” - Isaiah 53:4-10 NLT
