Delight

Do not fret because of those who are evil
or be envious of those who do wrong;
for like the grass they will soon wither,
like green plants they will soon die away.
Trust in the Lord and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
Take delight in the Lord,

I’ve been pondering about this again this morning:

What does it mean to delight in the Lord?

And my first thought/response was, “Gosh, I don’t really know…”And I tried to wash the thought from my mind.

But the thought remained. The question remained. So I began to pray and think it through a bit

“So… what do I delight in?”

And these things came to mind: My wife, my kids, my dogs, my friends, basketball, seeing a child/player/person grasp a new concept and take it and begin to excel in it.

“Why does all that delight you?’

They make me happy…. even joy-filled and joyful. I delight in them because I know them. Because I see and know who they are and what God has made them to be (even though I don’t yet know what He wants them to be and do). I have hopes, dreams, desires and expectations for them, as they have for me. I delight in them because they have become a part of me. I delight in them because I love them.
