Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.(or direct your paths)”
- Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV

My girls might not always realize it or understand it (or want to believe it/acknowledge it), but I am wiser and have a little more life experience than they do. So, dear old Dad can give them some guidance that may be beneficial in their life journey. Sometimes they take it and heed my advice. Sometimes they don’t. And usually when they don’t and decide to go their own way, they usually realize that maybe the old man was right.

There’s not a whole lot that they might face that I haven’t seen or faced. Maybe a bit different, but similar nonetheless.

This portion of Proverbs 3 is pretty clear:

The Lord’s direction, instruction and understanding is greater than ours. Trust in Him.

Then we’re told to not only trust in Him, but to acknowledge Him, and He will guide us and direct us… make our paths straight.

God knows better than I do. When I decide to go my own way and do my own thing, I usually have to come back and pray, “Dear Lord, please bless my mess. Forgive me for running out ahead of you or running in a completely different direction than you were pointing. O Lord, please bless my mess.”

And my heart and mind always go back to today’s passage.

Maybe my decision making process should begin… and end here.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.(or direct your paths)”
- Proverbs 3:5-6
