Trust
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight (or direct your paths)”
- Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV
Even today, my girls don’t always realize it or understand it (or want to believe it/acknowledge it), but I am a bit more wise and have a little more life experience than they do. So, sometimes dear old Dad may give them some guidance that may be beneficial in their life journey. Sometimes they take it and heed the advice. Sometimes they don’t. And when they don’t and decide to go their own way, they usually realize that maybe the old man was right after all.
There’s not a whole lot that they might face that I haven’t seen or faced. Maybe a bit different, but similar nonetheless.
Likewise, this portion of Proverbs 3 is pretty clear:
The Lord’s direction, instruction and understanding is greater than ours. Trust in Him.
Then we’re told to not only trust in Him, but to acknowledge Him, and He will guide us and direct us… make our paths straight.
God knows better than I do. There's nothing I face that Jesus hasn't or didn't. When I decide to go my own way and do my own thing, I usually have to come back and pray, “Dear Lord, please bless my mess. Forgive me for running out ahead of you or running in a completely different direction than you were pointing.”
And my heart and mind always go back to today’s passage.
Maybe my decision making process should begin… and end here.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight (or direct your paths)”
- Proverbs 3:5-6
