An Ordinary Day
And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
- Luke 2:8-14 ESV
Today is Tuesday.
A day much like any other day.
Today is Tuesday.
A day with its own set of stressors, frustrations, disappointments.
A day with its own set of positives, laughter, happy moments.
Today is Tuesday.
The day after Monday.
And this week, the Tuesday before Christmas.
Today is Tuesday.
The day we are reminded of the angel warriors who made a proclamation to some ordinary shepherds working in a field.
Today is Tuesday.
The day before we celebrate the birth of the Child the angels announced.
The Child born to be Savior of the World.
The Child who became a man, but not some ordinary man.
A man that lived a holy, sinless life.
A man that is Son of God and Son of man.
A man who lived and died and lived again so that we might have life, might be forgiven, might one day be with Him in heaven.
A Child like no other child who grew to be a man like no other man.
Jesus, the One who saves His people from their sin.
Emmanuel, God with us.
Today is Tuesday.
A day where we stop for a moment and praise God for that Child.
A day when we praise God from whom all blessings flow.
A day where we purposely praise Him for who He is, for what He has done, for what He is yet to do.
On this ordinary Tuesday, let’s stop for a moment and remember all that He has done for us.
Think back on the many answered prayers.
Those moments He held us as we stood with weak knees.
Stood by us as we stood alone.
Held us in our fear.
Celebrated with us as we danced upon the mountain top.
Wiped our tears away when we wept.
Laughed with us when we laughed.
Today is Tuesday... Christmas Eve…
A day that started out as an ordinary day for those shepherds in the field.
Today is Tuesday… not some ordinary day after all.
Keep the Faith... Carpe Diem
